History
Since its settlement by Oliver and Eliza Hough in 1799, the Hough area has occupied an important place in the city of Cleveland. Located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, today Hough is surrounded by University Circle, Rockefeller Parks, and the Cleveland Clinic. Through the partnership of business; financial institutions; developers; churches; and visionary individuals, the community will continue to grow"...one block at a time.
The people of Hough together with city officials and private developers have forged partnerships to rebuild the neighborhood and restore its pride. The 1980s and 1990s witness signs of rebirth in Hough, the Lexington village townhouse complex, which is across the street from Africa House, construction of numerous stately single family homes and the new churches square shopping center on 79th. and Euclid.

Today Africa House now AfricaHouse International is housed in a 4 suite Historical building located between 79th and 82nd street and Hough. The building was made into a studio and now into an out door Learning Center and Child Care facility. We employ 8 - 20 teens during the summer to work in various capacities which includes an Africa House Market Garden.
The outdoor Learning Center & Gardens has 7 stations that include a
- solar garden
- memorial garden
- 2 shade gardens
- rock garden
- 3 fruit trees
- Vegetable garden
- symbolic garden representing: East, West, North and South Africa.
- Berry patch
- Herb garden
